Jesse Elzinger

Jesse was born and grew up in Michigan, USA where his family were and are fruit growers. He attended a public (that is non-feepaying) school where he shone academically, gaining entrance to Harvard University, the only scholar from his school to do so before or since. His degree subject was theology and with the aid of a Rotary Foundation Ambassadorship, he was able to obtain a Master's degree at Oxford University. He is now in the course of a distinguished teaching career, having been, inter alia, director of studies at Harrow School.
He was also a successful rower, captaining a national championship eight, and he has the blazer to prove it!
Jesse, who is married with two small children, paid tribute to Rotary for enabling him to come to England, where he is obviously well settled.

PS Taking a great interest in this talk were Charles Hubbard, who is a governor at Reading Blue Coat School (he spoke very highly of Jesse) and Morvyn Hayes, who was a pupil there a little while ago. His principal memory is of the meals there consisting exclusively of black pudding!
