June presenting the JJ trophy

This annual event that raises thousands of pounds for charities was attended by over 50 players and around 20 guests and helpers. Following a Welcome breakfast of Bacon Butties and Coffee, the 18-hole Stableford Competition for Teams of Four began with a Shotgun start at 9am. Pam Scott and John Bale were at the Halfway House to offer tasty' on course' refreshments for those golfers flagging a little!!
There were Competitions for the Straightest Drive, Nearest the Pin and Prize Holes that seemed to be topic of conversations between the players, over an enjoyable buffet style lunch in the Clubhouse.
A special award this year was the John James Memorial Trophy which was awarded to the Rotarian with the best Stableford score. John, who sadly passed away earlier this year was a well- known and valued member of Reading Rotary for many years. June his wife attended the event and presented the Trophy to Peter Mason from Reading Abbey Club with a score of 29 points
The Tombola Table had over 85 prizes - our thanks go out to all members who contributed with gifts or money - and to all generous golfers and Rotarians who purchased Tombola tickets there, your efforts helped us raise nearly 450 for charity.
Thanks too to all our sponsors including; Business Moves Group, Richard Stone, Charles Hubbard, Charles Stanley, Alan and Thomas Insurance, Protar, Vale and West, Lancaster Land Rover, Janet Poland, Dexter Montague, Mike Bissell, Redland Healthcare, Pitmans and Francis Construction
As a footnote, these events take a lot of time and effort to organise and it is really appreciated when members of our club volunteer to help on the day, so a big thank you to all the golf-day helpers.
