Sport in Mind

Laura told us that their vision was to make all sports and physical activity accessible to anyone experiencing mental health problems.
Sport is well known to be beneficial to mental health and Laura and her colleagues provide all sorts of activities to bring wellbeing to adults who would otherwise have difficulty in socialising or even in getting outside their homes. They work closely with the mental hospital in Honey End Lane but also receive referrals from GPs and other medical workers. Once the patient is introduced to Sport in Mind he or she can drop in to take part in a range of fun weekly sessions of activities including badminton, yoga, football, table tennis and walking. The coaches are all qualified professionals, which of course have to be paid for. The benefits are soon apparent as the participants open up to discussing their problems and helping towards their recovery.
The charity operates out of several venues in the local area doing a fantastic job
